EAL (English as an additional language)
Students who enter CCS and do not have English as their first language will need to sit a WIDA test to determine their level of English. The scores of the WIDA test will help us to determine which of the two different English IGCSE exams the student will sit.
The scores and thresholds for these tests are shown below for entering Y11. A student falling below a 5.0 on a WIDA coming into school in Year 11, would likely study English as a Second language and also attend English first language as an immersion experience, but would be less likely to complete IGCSE coursework. A student who comes into CCS with below a 5.0 would also need extra tutoring outside of school hours.
