These small items just present how loyal Mr. Kelley was. He earned these Honorable Discharges by fighting in the heat of battle and surviving three different times. The army had sent him home after the first discharge and yet, he joined back two more times. Every time he had left the army was because of a discharge.
This medal is called a good conduct medal. Good conduct medals are awarded for outstanding behavior, efficiency, and fidelity in an active Federal military service. The Good conduct medal was established June 28th, 1941 by Executive Order 8809.
