Test all smoke alarms, battery powered and hard-wired , once a month. Vacuum and /or dust around the alarms regularly to keep them clean.

Install at least one alarm on each level of your home. It is recommended to have one in each sleeping area and outside of sleeping areas.
NEED SMOKE ALARMS?
The purpose of the Smoke Alarm Program is to ensure a minimum of one working smoke alarm exists on each occupied level of a home. If smoke alarms are needed at your home, Chesterfield Fire and EMS will provide and install them at no charge.

Your ability to get out of your home during a fire depends on advance warning from smoke alarms and planning. Fire can spread rapidly through your home, leaving you as little as one or two minutes to escape safely once the smoke alarm sounds.
