Child Safety Seat Information

In partnership with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), this program offers free child safety seats and booster seats for income-eligible children and families. Parents, foster parents and legal guardians of children who reside in Virginia may apply. Safety restraint devices provided include a convertible safety seat (with a starting weight of 5 pounds) and a belt-positioning booster seat. If you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible:

• Resident of Chesterfield County, Virginia (citizenship not required)

• Custodial parent, legal guardian or foster parent

• Child is 7 years old or younger; pregnant mother must be in last trimester of pregnancy

• Child must fit within the program’s devices (set by manufacturer’s guidelines).

• Income eligible for WIC, Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, FAMIS or LISSDEP income level guidelines

• Parent or legal guardian is available to complete required training to learn how to correctly use and install a safety seat and booster seat
