Read Across America Parent/Family Participation WANTED!!!!
Oakland is planning a week-long celebration with themed activities and free books for Read Across America 2022, starting February 28 - March 4.
We would like to invite you (parents/guardians) to participate in our celebration by videotaping a reading of your favorite book and emailing it to your child’s homeroom teacher. The video will be posted to your student’s reading Google Classroom and /or other Oakland classrooms. Additionally, you may want to contact your child’s homeroom teacher to set up a GOOGLE MEET or Zoom meeting time for you to read a story LIVE to the classroom. For the readings, you may want to read in a costume representing a book’s character or read as a mystery guest.
All parents/guardians, please return the completed form to Oakland by Friday, February 11.
Todos los padres/tutores, por favor devuelvan el formulario completo a Oakland antes del viernes 11 de febrero.

A Halloween favorite, Pumpkin Jack, was read aloud in English and Spanish with a link to the readings posted on Oakland’s Title I site. Title I and AmeriCorps staff prepared and sent home, with each Oakland student, a packet with a project, questions, and activities that go with the story. Oakland stakeholders were invited to share the story and participate in the activities with students. The parent/student/family activity survey tabulation indicated that 100% of participants found the activity enjoyable and 91.5 % percent found the activities beneficial.
