Army and Cadet Command Regulations govern the JROTC program. By regulation, one of the requirements for successful completion of the course is wearing the Army uniform. Cadets are required to wear the Class A or B uniform at least one day a week. Wednesday is the prescribed day cadets wear the uniform. On certain occasions (assembly, parade etc) the Senior Army Instruction (SAI) may need to change this to another day. An inspection is conducted on uniform day and points are deducted per the inspection (see attached inspection sheet). The uniform must be worn during their class period. Physical Training (PT) uniforms are brought to school and worn during JROTC class on Tuesdays and Fridays. Cadets are inspected in PT uniform on these days. Cadets are expected to wear their PT uniform whether they can participate in PT or not, unless a medical device physically prohibits the wear of the uniform.
We hear many reasons for not being in uniform on inspection day; “my uniform is in the cleaners”, “somebody spilled soda on my uniform”, “didn’t have time to put my hair up”, “I couldn't find my socks/belt”, and this is my favorite “I slept late and didn’t have time to put my uniform on”. However, they always have time to put on civilian clothing.
Army regulation 670-1 tells us how and what we can wear with this uniform (jewelry, color of fingernails, length of hair). The uniform is worn complete and clean. It is the responsibility of the cadet to clean the uniform. The uniform (trousers and shirt) can be washed at home. Wash in cool water with mild detergent, dry on low heat and remove from dryer before completely dry and put on hanger. The Army Service Uniform coat ("Class A coat") and the black windbreaker must be dry cleaned. If you turn the uniform in to be cleaned at the dry cleaners, make sure it will be back in time for the next inspection.
Inspection deductions for the Class A or B inspection are given using the following grading sheet.

Weekly uniform scores are calculated by averaging the total scores from each inspection, with the Class A inspection being weighted twice the value of the PT uniform inspections.
Wearing the uniform teaches many aspects of the JROTC program: discipline, commitment, integrity, and loyalty. This is why the uniform inspections, which measure these things, are so important. One zero will prevent you from earning an “A” for the nine-weeks, even with an average of 100 on tests. One zero for the six weeks usually drops final grade one letter, three zeros for the six weeks will result in a failing grade. For grading purposes, it is better to come in unprepared (i.e. with no belt/socks, haircut etc.) and lose a few points instead of taking a zero for not wearing the uniform at all. We do not accept excuses.
This is an outstanding program with many activities and opportunities to learn. We want cadets to learn from and participate in these activities. We do not want cadets to “waste” a semester and a credit towards graduation simply because they failed to wear the uniform.
