The CCHS Cavalier battalion provides cadets several opportunities throughout the year to experience the military heritage of our country first hand. In the past, cadets have gone on field trips to the various museums in and around Fort Bragg, N.C., the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA, and The Guilford Courthouse Revolutionary War battlefield. These trips help our cadets learn the history that these museums provide and gives a better understanding and greater appreciation of our freedom that we inherited.
On the 24th of October our battalion took a trip to Bedford to tour the gorgeous D-Day memorial. The tour starts off with cadets going into a tent to hear a speech about everything that happened on and led up to the notorious day. They get to see what the soldiers would wear what they ate and all of their other equipment. They also learn about the "Bedford boys" and the reason the memorial was built in Bedford. Next they go and explore the beautiful grounds of the memorial filled with monuments and sculptures in recognition the famous day known as D-day.
On April 10th the Cavalier Battalion traveled to North Carolina to visit Fort Bragg. The tour started off with the cadets watching a landing brief about what to do when they need to parachute out of a plane. They went through the museum, which consisted of an inside exhibit and an outdoor one as well. The inside had relics, whereas the outdoor had air crafts and war machinery. They got to see displays of wax figures set into the times of different conflicts and an outside art gallery that had sculptures depicting the emotion felt in each conflict. They had archways that lead to galleries of each military branch.
