This course is open to all students regardless of past choir experience or level of music education. Instruction includes learning music reading, musicianship, proper singer's diction, and proper breathing techniques. Students are exposed to a variety of musical styles. This course provides students the opportunity to perform in a choral setting and have the opportunity to participate in the IMEA district and all state festivals, the IHSA Solo & Ensemble Contest, and the IHSA Organization Contest. The choir sings at every all-school Mass. The Concert Choir is open to all students at Central Catholic High School.
This audition-only ensemble is open to any female student currently attending CCHS who would like to broaden their ensemble experience. This ensemble will explore a wide variety of music and focus on a capella, jazz, show tunes, and various other forms of music. Students are expected to be able to match pitch and have a good sense of rhythm as this ensemble will typically sing things that are a bit higher level than Concert Choir. Students should be confident singers with a strong work ethic and ability to harmonize and carry their own parts. Basic music reading ability is expected.
