Free independent travel training scheme for children with SEND

Dear School Staff,

We’re pleased to invite you to book students for a free, one-off independent travel training session, designed to support those with additional needs in becoming confident and safe travellers. This initiative is led by Transport for London, in partnership with Barnet Council, the Metropolitan Police Service, and First Bus London.

About the Sessions

• Held on a private moving bus in Edgware

• Suitable for students aged 10 and above with SEND/additional needs (no formal diagnosis required)

• Aimed at those who are already travelling independently or preparing to do so in the near future

• Fun, interactive, and informative

Topics Covered

• Tips for travelling safely

• Travel cards, ticket inspectors, and their roles

• Stranger danger and identifying safe strangers

• Asking for help

• Road safety awareness

Booking Options

• Schools can book for either individual students or groups

• If schools are unable to bring students themselves, parents/carers can bring their children subject to school approval

• To book a session, simply complete the attached booking form and return it to me

Availability

There is a choice of morning (10.15am – 11.50am) or afternoon (12.15pm – 1.50pm) on the following dates:

• Tuesday 17th March 2026

• Tuesday 28th April 2026

• Tuesday 19th May 2026

We are looking to film and/or photograph one of the sessions taking place in October or November to feature in Barnet’s Connecting Communities campaign. Please let us know if you would like to take part! Consent will be arranged with all participants prior to the session.
