Addressing Antisemitism: from Neil Marlow, Chief Executive & Director of Education & Learning

Antisemitism in schools/colleges review

The Department for Education has launched a call for evidence to help build a clearer picture of antisemitism in schools and colleges.

Led by Sir David Bell, the independent review invites students, parents, teachers and staff to share their experiences so the government can strengthen protections for Jewish pupils and staff.

With school‑related cases doubling compared with pre‑2023 levels, this evidence will play a vital role in shaping recommendations to improve policies, training and support across the sector.

We strongly encourage everyone with relevant experiences to share their views and help shape this work. The closing date for contributions is 1 July 2026.

Year 7 – How can I be socially responsible?

This Lesson:

• Understand what social responsibility means and why it is important in everyday life.

• Explore the values of mutual respect and tolerance of differences in diverse communities.

• Learn how people can positively influence others through their words, actions, and behaviour.

• Define activism and examine different ways individuals and groups campaign for change.

• Discuss examples of positive social action, such as fundraising, volunteering, and awareness campaigns.

• Consider how social media can be used responsibly to promote fairness and inclusion.

• Identify small practical actions that can improve their school, local area, or wider community.

• Reflect on how individual choices and behaviours can create meaningful impact over time.

Year 8 – Tolerance of differences and social responsibility

This Lesson:

• Understand what is meant by tolerance of differences in a diverse society.

• Explore why respecting different beliefs, cultures, identities, and opinions is important.

• Discuss how diversity can strengthen communities and society.

• Learn how disagreements can happen respectfully without insults, discrimination, or conflict.

• Practise communication skills such as listening, empathy, and calm discussion during debates.

• Explore how social and political issues can create strong opinions and why respectful dialogue matters.

• Identify examples of socially responsible behaviour in schools, communities, and online spaces.

• Reflect on how small positive actions can improve belonging, inclusion, and community identity.

Year 9 – Basic First Aid

This lesson:

• Understand what first aid is and why it is important in emergency situations.

• Identify common emergencies such as burns, bleeding, choking, unconsciousness, allergic reactions, and head injuries.

• Learn when and how to contact emergency services safely using 999 or 112.

• Practise what information to give emergency call handlers, including location and details of the emergency.

• Explore how to assess danger and keep yourself and others safe before helping.

• Learn the steps for placing someone in the recovery position safely.

• Understand basic responses to injuries such as bleeding, burns, choking, and unconsciousness.

• Develop confidence in staying calm, reassuring others, and providing help until professional support arrives.

Year 10 –  Budgeting and Financial Planning in Real Life

This lesson:

• Understand what a budget is and why budgeting is important in everyday adult life.

• Explore the different sections of a payslip, including gross pay, deductions, and net pay.

• Identify common deductions from wages such as tax, National Insurance, pensions, and student loan repayments.

• Analyse fictional character payslips to work out how much money each person actually takes home.

• Create realistic budgets for different life scenarios using income and monthly expenses.

• Compare needs and wants when making financial decisions and prioritising spending.

• Consider how unexpected costs, such as emergencies or repairs, can affect financial stability.

• Reflect on how budgeting can support independence, reduce stress, and help achieve future goals.

After Half term we will go onto our final topic of the year: MY IMPACT

Here we will be looking at how we can have a positive impact on society, others, and ourselves and our futures. We will deep dive into celebrating differences in culture, identity, sexuality etc. and look at how we can reflect on our own impact this past year and how we can set goals for the summer and the next academic year to continue being decent human beings, valued members of the CCF community and our most authentic and confident selves.

Reminder: Drama - Scaffolding Help Please

The Drama department are looking to borrow a small amount of scaffolding to build a raised platform on our school stage for our production of Oliver. 

If any parents could help either supply or help us build this we would be very grateful.

Reminder: Year 8 HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Vaccine

The School Aged Immunisation Team will be coming into your child's school on 01/05/2025 and 12/06/2026 to administer the HPV vaccine to girls and boys in Year 8. 

Please use the link below to register your consent for your child to receive the vaccine, please complete this whether you want your child to have the vaccine or do not consent.  When completing the form, please ensure that you make absolutely sure that you have entered the correct school as there are a lot of schools in the Barnet area with the same or similar names.

This is a very important vaccine and is part of your child's routine childhood vaccinations.  It protects against 9 strains of the Human Papillomavirus and prevents against certain types of Cancer.

Your child's school will mostly have two dates booked unless it is a very small school.   If your child misses their vaccine at the first session due to illness or absence, please do not complete a second consent form, the original consent form will still be valid.
