Updates for the Parents/Carers of Christ’s College Finchley
Dear families,
I start this week by sharing the sad news that Gary Tucker, who started working at CCF in 1980 and was Headteacher from 2004-2013, died yesterday after suffering a stroke last month. A significant number of current CCF staff knew and worked with Gary and some staff remember Mr Tucker as their Headteacher during their time as CCF pupils. I know that many members of the community will also hold fond memories of Gary; he showed great dedication to Christ’s College and will be much missed.
As we enter the last week of the academic year, the school feels incredibly busy with staff and pupils working hard to conclude the term and ensure that plans are in place for the autumn term. I would like to remind parents and carers that school finishes on Friday 18th July and pupils will be dismissed at 12.30pm. Lunch will be available for pupils who wish to eat before they leave. As next week looks set to continue to be hot, and following feedback from pupils, pupils can wear their PE kit next week.
There have been a number of events this week and it has been lovely to see the enthusiasm and competitive spirit during Sports Week. I would like to thank our amazing PE team who not only organised the week but also the Terry Laird Sports Awards that took place on Wednesday afternoon and highlighted the importance of sport in building our pupils’ confidence, resilience and character, and I would like to congratulate all the pupils involved in the event and particularly those who won awards.
Thursday’s Arts Evening was a real celebration of Art, Drama, Dance and Music and was an incredible display of the hard work of pupils and staff. It was fantastic to see the packed Sarabi Hall enjoying the brilliant performances and I would like to thank all of the performers, their families and those of you who were able to join us for the evening, as well as the staff who ensured the event was such a success.
The pupils on the China trip return tomorrow and the pictures and updates suggest that they have been having an excellent time. We have had another wide variety of trips and activities this week including a Year 9 Spanish Language workshop on Monday; the Jack Petchey Achievement Award evening on Tuesday; a debating competition on Thursday; a Science Club trip to the Science museum on Thursday; and the CCF Cadets leave for summer camp on Sunday.
Finally, I would like to thank parents and carers for your continued support and wish you all a lovely weekend in the sunshine.
Dr Ruth Hill
