Beginning in the junior year, students will take six IB courses from the six subject areas. Three courses need to be Standard Level (SL) courses and three courses need to be Higher Level (HL) courses. Students will also have to complete what is known as the Core, which includes:
Students who pursue the IB Diploma will meet the NYS requirements for a Regents Diploma. The IB Diploma is aligned to the NYS requirements and is an additional accomplishment.
The IB Diploma Programme prepares one for a college course of study. Colleges look favorably on the IB Diploma Programme and will often give credit for the courses taken based on a student's scores. Some IB Diploma graduates have started college as a sophomore (granted 24 - 30 credits).
Students can take individual IB courses based on interests and strengths. We encourage ALL students to challenge themselves by taking an IB course. IB course credit can translate to receiving college credit depending on the school, overall score and a student's major.
Courses take place over two years and run in the junior and senior year unless otherwise denoted.
