You may submit a speech and/or a poem for consideration by a committee. Selected speeches will be edited with the assistance and guidance of a faculty member. Please see the guidance and links for submissions of speeches and poems below.
All speeches and poems to be considered for graduation need to be submitted no later than Friday, May 1st, 2026.
The purpose of the speech is to provide an opportunity to recognize and thank people, reminisce, wish well to graduates, urge graduates to follow their dreams and achieve their potential, and be directed primarily to the graduates. Speeches should not exceed 5 minutes in length.
To be considered for approval, a student must be in good standing and selected by a committee. There are several guidelines to consider when submitting a speech proposal:
Always keep in mind your audience
Be inclusive of everyone in the class
Thank parents, teachers and classmates
Be specific to the graduating class
Limit talk about yourself
Refrain from negativity
No inappropriateness
Limit inside jokes
Avoid clichés
Limit advice
Content should not advance a cause or personal belief not connected to the purposes listed above.
Consider including:
Major events (world, community, school)
Meaningful class activities
Values that are important to the students
Popular cultural references
