8th grade curriculum: In eighth grade we examine the diverse styles and messages communicated in art. You are introduced to traditional and contemporary art styles (think old and new) while gaining experience in communicating visually with various art media (the materials used to make an artwork). You’ll work through thoughtful planning and exploration of symbolism to take on the challenge of working collaboratively to communicate a message. After installing your work within the school, the fun of interpreting each other’s messages begins.
You should expect to keep a sketchbook and maintain a digital portfolio. This is a great way to see personal progress and adopt the real world practices of artists and creatives!
