Course overview
The beginning orchestra will focus on building a strong foundation through instrumental instruction. Students will learn performance skills through rudimentary exercises and explore a variety of musical genres. For experienced players, there will be leadership and chamber opportunities to continue growing in excellence as a musician.

Beginners only: Essential Elements 2025 – Book 1 for chosen instrument- violin, viola, cello
Concert Dress
Gentlemen: Black pants, black socks, black Shoes, black long sleeve button up shirt
Ladies: Long black dress, skirt, or black pants, black blouse (no shoulders exposed) and black shoes
Grading
Formative – Classwork and daily participation 40%
Summative – Weekly Playing test 30%, Written Exams 30%
Final – 20%
Classroom Expectations
- Be Respectful of all people in the classroom. Treat instruments in a professional manner. Do not write on instruments or stands. Keep the classroom tidy and leave it the way it was when you entered.
- Responsibility – be on time and bring all supplies to class.
- Effort – Participation is required in class. Try your best and you will improve your musicianship through practice.
- No food in class
- No cell phones in class

1st offence – Private/student teacher conference
2nd offence – Parent contact
3rd offence – referral to administration
