The Georgia Department of Education provides the following definition for U.S. History:
“The high school United States History course provides students with a comprehensive, intensive study of major events and themes in United States history. Beginning with early European colonization, the course examines major events and themes throughout United States history. The course concludes with significant developments in the early 21st century.” CP United States History is a collaborative teaching effort here at Grovetown High School, and includes myself, Mr. Andrew Anderson?, Mr. Brett Carter, Mr. Mark Epps, Ms. Alaina Smith, and Ms. Memory Stelter. As a team, we plan and implement all instruction for the course throughout the school year. This provides a greater depth of ideas with regard to the course's content and, hopefully, a richer learning experience for the students. The creator writes, draws, and narrates all of his own content. The videos are effective summaries of some of history's most important periods. with many relevant to US History.
The link above takes you to the Hip Hughes YouTube page with a list of relevant videos. Hip Hughes videos are relevant for a variety of US Historical topics. They are a sufficient secondary resource for students to glean additional information from any of the topics discussed in this course. The delivery style is lecture-based, but fast-moving and interspersed with catchy segues and music throughout.
Who does not love Steve Green? I will supplement lessons throughout the semester using study aids from this helpful web-based video series. I am providing a quick link to the site here.
I realize the course is US History, but US Government is just as relevant to many of the topics and issues we discuss. It provides foundation to any to any discussion and may be used to better explain how certain political events developed.
Crash Course World History II takes a deeper look at some of history's biggest topics like Capitalism or War. It also focuses more on some of history's most pivotal events like the World Wars. While not focused completely on US History, the series is useful for providing additional information beyond the highlights.
And finally...
CP (College Preparatory) U.S. History is an EOC (End-of-Course) Class. In the spring, all students are required by the state of Georgia to take the End-of-Course (EOC) Exam given via computer. The exam is comprehensive and covers topics from ALL units of U.S. History. Every unit of study throughout this school year is relevant and will be subject to testing on the EOC. Please give your best effort and pay attention in class. If you have questions, ASK! It is also advisable to periodically review units and information already covered in class. We will do this as a class, but you must be diligent with your own preparation. Good luck in class! I look forward to a great year!
