Along with the activities that Lakeside High School offers, there are numerous activities through IB at the school! We have the IB Connections Society, as well as IB student Council. It is totally manageable to do other activities while being in IB. Hear from some of our students!
Class of 2021 JT Young
JT worked as a karate instructor.
"It did teach me a lot about how I needed to learn to manage time and be able to do school work while I had my job. IB definitely brings a big workload you're expected to do, but at the same time, with balancing a job, you have to learn how to set your priorities. Overall, I think it was a great learning experience, and I encourage that people explore their extracurricular options when going into IB."
Class of 2021 Ansley Thurmond
Ansley works at Complete Game and plays flag football and soccer.
"I handle IB by doing my work in class, and I don't procrastinate my work. Communicating with my peers helps me understand the material. It is definitely challenging juggling a job and a sport, but it will help me in the future with college and future jobs. It did take some time for me to figure out a schedule that works for me, but over time, I got the hang of it. Some may think that IB requires all of your attention, but that is not true. You can still have a job, play or sport, or do any extracurricular activities you choose to do."
IB Student Council
Student Council Elections are held during junior and senior year! Usually, candidates answer questions about themselves and then are designated a number. Students are then able to read those responses and pick a candidate from there. This way, nobody is voting for the candidate just because of the name or the fact that they are friends. Everybody has en equal chance!

As IB Student Council President, Anu Pillai helps plan socials to destress and advocate for the students to the teachers and counselors.
IB Senior Student Council President Anu Pillai and fellow IB student, John Griggs, started the Students Raising Awareness club! They partnered with #chalkthevote to chalk around our school to encourage people to get out and vote!
IB Connections Society
"IBCS stands for international baccalaureate connection society, and as an organization, we primarily strive to utilize the knowledge of IB seniors to assist our new IB juniors. We do so through tutoring, helpful blog posts, and informational seminar which al include information that is pertinent to the life of an IB student. This connection society began with two students from the first IB cohort- Samantha Liu and Catherine Aniezue. And till today, IBCS continues to provide assistance to all Lakeside IB students.

IB Socials
Throughout the year, we have socials during the school day to give everybody a chance to relax! People bring food and we play games! It's for both juniors and seniors too, so they can get to know more people! With Covid, we had our recent IB social at the softball field with social distancing.
