FAQ's about the IB Programme

Programme Costs

Each exam costs $124. Juniors taking any one year SL classes will only pay for those exams in December of that year. Seniors will pay for the remaining costs of exams in December of senior year. We understand that these exams are costly. However, they are a worthy investment. The IB staff wants all students to be successful and to earn the IB diploma!

Class of 2019 College Credit Awarded

College Credit

Similar to AP exams, students can receive college credit for their exam scores. However, IB exams are graded out of 7 points instead of 5 points. Depending on the college your child chooses to go to, the college may want to accept the credit or reject it, depending on their requirements. We can assist students and families in researching what schools accept what credit and how that can be of benefit to them. Here is an example below, from UGA.

IB Pinning Ceremony

"This ceremony is designed to formally recognize that students have made the transition from IB prep to the IB Diploma Programme and serves as an acknowledgment of all the hard work accomplished in order to make it to this point in their course of study."

Due to COVID, the class of 2021 was not able to have their pinning ceremony. Hopefully, we we will be able to have one this year for both the juniors and seniors. If not, hopefully the juniors will have one next year!

Support

With a full schedule of IB classes, students mostly see other IB students for the whole day. Because of this, students form great friendships and become a part of the IB family! IB classes call for lots of time and preparation. At Lakeside, we have the IB connection society that is meant to help both juniors and seniors. We match juniors with a group of seniors who can help them with studying, tutoring, or advice. Along with this, Dr. Brown and Mrs. Newton's office door is always open.

Class of 2021 Abbie Childers "I took Chemistry SL my junior year. After my first test, I walked out of the class in tears because I thought I did so bad. I went straight to their office where they listened to everything I had to say. After I was done talking, they told me that everything would be okay which is what ended up happening. I ended with a good grade in that class for both semesters, but it was nice to be able to talk to someone about it! When I'm having a bad day, I know I can talk to them about it!

Class of 2021 Brianna Cascino- "Mrs. Newton has been my counselor since 6th grade, before I even knew anything about IB. When I started IB, it was easy for me to go and talk to her about anything I needed help with or just to talk. Not only has she helped me with my classes, but also with college applications. Even when they have busy schedules, they always make time for their IB students!"
