Please keep your child at home if...
1.) they may spread a contagious illness to others
2.) they are too sick to be comfortable at school
3.) they need medication to keep a fever down
Columbia County School System policy requires students to be fever-free (less than 100 degrees via oral thermometer) for 24 hours prior to returning to school. Additionally, students should be fever free without the use of fever reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin.
To keep our Wolfpack family healthy, students will be sent home for:
Diarrhea - students may return to school 24 hours after the last diarrhea stool if no other symptoms are present.
Vomiting - students may return to school 24 hours after the last vomiting episode if no other symptoms are present.
Fever - 99.5 & above if other symptoms are present. Students with fever of 100+ will not be dismissed to the bus. Students with a fever of 104+ will be isolated in the clinic, monitored closely and must be picked up within 15 minutes or 911 must be called per CCBOE policy. Students should NOT be given fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin to come to school. Students may return to school after 24 hours of being fever free without the use of medications.
Drainage - Open wounds or sores, infectious drainage from eyes, ears or nose. Students prescribed antibiotics must be on the treatment for 24 hours before returning to school.
Strep Throat or Scarlet Fever - If infection is suspected, student must be seen by a healthcare provider for evaluation & treatment. Students prescribed antibiotics must be on the treatment for 24 hours before returning to school.
Pink Eye (conjunctivitis) - Students may return to school after symptoms subside. Students prescribed antibiotics must be on the treatment for 24 hours before returning to school.
Impetigo or Other Unknown Rash - Students must be seen by a healthcare provider for evaluation & treatment. Students prescribed antibiotics must be on the treatment for 24 hours before returning to school. If chronic/non-infectious rash such as eczema or psoriasis, please bring a note from the doctor to add to the student's health file to prevent unnecessary calls from the nurse and subsequent absences.
Chicken Pox - Students may return to school after rash is dry and new bumps have not appeared for 48 hours. Varicella vaccine should prevent this infection. Students are contagious 2 days before the onset of rash, so you must inform the school of diagnosis right away. Unvaccinated students may be excluded from school during the contagion period to prevent the spread of infection at the discretion of the local department of public health.
Mites or Scabies - Students must be seen by a healthcare provider for evaluation & treatment. Students prescribed medication must complete treatment before returning to school.

Students hair will be checked prior to returning to the classroom for 7-10 days from the last time live lice are found. Re-treatment may be necessary. Prescription medication can be obtained from your child's healthcare provider.
Nausea - that does not subside or other symptoms are present.
Head Injuries - student requires further evaluation when concussion is suspected.
Other - Any other suspected illness or injury requiring further evaluation by a healthcare provider at the discretion of the school nurse and/or school administration.
