Northern Ireland Schools Volleyball tournaments have some local rules that are additions to the standard rules of volleyball.

• Players at U16 level and below are not allowed to contact the ball with any part of their body below the waist.

• Players at any level are permitted to head the ball in exceptional circumstances. Continued heading of the ball that goes against the spirit of the game will be called as a fault.

Some rules that sometimes get overlooked by coaches, but still apply at schools level:

• Each player must serve in turn.

• A substituted player may only return to court in place of the player that replaced them.
