"boyish"

In the 1920s, political women began wearing more masculine clothing as a way to prove their equal stature with men. Loose-fitting dresses to de-emphasize the waist and chest became fashionable and many women even bound their chests to give them the most boyish look they could achieve. Bobbed hair too came into fashion as one of the first times short hair was popularized for women.
