~ A Quarter-Century of Excellence in Optomechatronics ~
The International Symposium on Optomechatronic Technology (ISOT) is a premier international conference dedicated to "Optomechatronics"—a synergistic fusion of Optics, Mechanics, and Electronics. Since its inaugural meeting in Boston, USA, in 2000, ISOT has been held annually across the globe, establishing itself as a world-leading forum in this field for over 25 years.
Organized and supported by the International Society for Opto-Mechatronics (ISOM), the symposium serves as a vital platform where researchers and engineers from both academia and industry gather to share and discuss the latest advancements in innovative measurement techniques, optomechatronic devices, laser processing technologies, and their diverse application systems.
Reflecting on its history, ISOT was initially centered in the United States (Boston) during its early years. It subsequently expanded its footprint to Europe (Germany, France, Switzerland, etc.) and Asia (Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, India, etc.), evolving into a global hub for research networking. ISOT 2026 in Hiroshima (Miyajima) marks a significant return to Japan—the fourth time in the symposium's history—following the 2005 meeting in Sapporo, the 2016 meeting in Tokyo (Itabashi) and the 2023 meeting in Tochigi (Nasu).
In recent years, the community faced unprecedented challenges, including postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2026 Miyajima conference represents a pivotal milestone, offering a long-awaited opportunity for researchers from around the world to reconnect in person, deepen professional exchanges, and foster the next generation of technological innovations.
