WEEKLY JOURNAL
WEEK 1
In my first week, I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know my cooperating teacher yet. I would only speak when they spoke to me, as I was shy at first, especially when they introduced me to the four sections they handle. The first thing I did was observe the teaching strategies my cooperating teacher used. I took note of my observations to guide me on how to manage the Grade 8 students effectively.
WEEK 2
For this week, the first task my cooperating teacher assigned to me was to check the students’ activities since they were with the players who would be participating in the congressional games. At first, I was unsure because it was my first time handling four sections, but because my cooperating teacher trusted me, I gained more confidence. In the following days, the third quarter final exam took place, and I served as their proctor and graded their exams. Since my cooperating teacher was not yet around, I recorded all their scores. This was also the week I prepared for my first demonstration teaching. I used my free time to create a lesson plan and instructional materials. When I taught, even though my cooperating teacher wasn’t there, it was difficult to get the students’ attention. This made me think of other strategies to engage them.
WEEK 3
This week, I really felt the fatigue and lack of sleep due to the daily preparation of lessons. It was an exhausting week, but I still chose to smile and remain confident in front of my cooperating teacher. My cooperating teacher is very meticulous when it comes to lesson planning. They trained me in creating lesson plans, and because of that, I am grateful. Even though they give me a lot of tasks, they always tell me, "You can do this," and that is what helped boost my confidence. On February 14th, we prepared and decorated the stage for the Valentine’s Day event. It was also the day when you had to be talented, even if you had no talent. We sang as an intermission to entertain the students and teachers. It was embarrassing, but it had to be done—no room for shyness. In the following days, I began preparing for my pre-final demonstration, and my cooperating teacher helped me with my lesson plan.
WEEK 4
For this week, I was ready for my pre-final demonstration. I was nervous because I would be facing other teachers. I woke up early since I was the first to do my demonstration, but thanks to the help of my cooperating teacher, I felt confident in what I was going to teach. After my demonstration teaching, I felt energized because of the positive feedback on my teaching. That was also the reason my confidence in teaching grew. Afterward, I helped my cooperating teacher with the HRPTA meeting, which was for the awarding of honors and achievers.
WEEK 5
For this week, there were no classes due to the Battle of the Wise District, so I just gave an online activity. I used that time to prepare for the topic I will be teaching. This week also included Ash Wednesday, and we attended Mass. The following day, I informed my cooperating teacher that I wouldn’t be coming to school because it was my uncle’s funeral, and she allowed it.
WEEK 6
For this week, I taught two topics because my cooperating teacher said we might fall behind in the lessons. To avoid delays, I had to finish the lessons earlier since the fourth quarterly assessment is approaching. I was surprised because I had to prepare two lesson plans, but since complaining wasn’t an option, I accepted the task willingly.
This week also marked the celebration of Women’s Day. We helped decorate the stage for the upcoming event. I felt happy even though I was tired, especially when my students would come up to me playfully. Their energy made me enjoy talking and interacting with them even more.
WEEK 7
For this week, I continued teaching my topics. Although the final demonstration teaching was fast approaching, I still couldn’t begin preparing for it because I had many other tasks to finish. That became the reason why I started to feel nervous as the final teaching drew near.
This week, I was already cramming—I had only one night to prepare for my final demo teaching. Thankfully, my cooperating teacher didn’t leave me alone; she helped me with my lesson plan. I also started creating my instructional materials. It was nerve-wracking because deep down, I felt unprepared. But by God's grace, I was able to get through it, and my final demonstration teaching turned out to be successful.
WEEK 8
This week, since my final demonstration teaching was already done, I returned to my usual tasks and continued teaching my topics. It was tiring because there was no break, but it was all worth it because I learned a lot from my teaching experience.
This week also included an earthquake drill, where we facilitated and guided our students throughout the activity.
WEEK 9
This week, I was busy preparing a test questionnaire and a table of specification for the upcoming fourth quarterly assessment. I was occupied not only with the exam but also with recording quizzes and activities for grading. Since the vacation is approaching, I made sure to finish all the tasks assigned to me right away. The fourth quarterly assessment was then conducted, and I immediately checked the test papers so I could proceed with computing the grades for all four sections.
WEEK 10
This week, our Teaching Internship Program Culminating Activity was held, marking the nearing end of our stay at our cooperating school. We prepared food for the program and helped organize the event. After the program, we started working on the remaining requirements for our departure and finished computing the students’ grades.
This week, I also made the most of my remaining time with my students, knowing that our days together are numbered. It’s sad to think about, but there's nothing we can do—it’s part of the process. After spending more than three months with them, I feel truly happy. It’s such a fulfilling experience to be called “Sir” and to stand in front of the class to teach. For me, even though it was tiring, my internship journey was incredibly joyful and rewarding
