Expression of Interests:
Senior Business Reporter
We are launching an expression of interest to hire a senior reporter for our business unit for five months, from May to September.
We are looking for a reporter with a passion for business news and a talent for going live. Whether the story involves trade disputes or the latest consumer trends, you understand the economic forces behind the news. The successful candidate is an expert at distilling macroeconomic ideas into clear, compelling narratives on multiple platforms.
As a senior reporter, you will pitch original stories and move fast on breaking news. You have strong writing, research, and interviewing skills and work well in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment. You are confident and experienced going live (at at times unscripted) on social media, in live digital story pages, on television and on radio. You can do packed, on-demand pieces in video, audio and text.
You have a list of business sources and an understanding of how to pitch stories that will appeal to the young, diverse audience that is our target demographic. You are hungry to file.
We are asking that candidates have at least 5 years of relevant full-time experience.
This reporter will work 5 days a week (730-1545 ET), and have the ability to work overtime as required. Because the position runs through the busy summer months, we operationally will not be able to grant AL in July/August.
The successful candidate could be based in Toronto but we would consider applicants from other parts of Canada if they can work at a CBC station that can operationally support live broadcast hits. This job cannot be done from home.
Applications are due Friday April 10 at 5 p.m. ET.
They can be emailed to Lianne Elliott or Vik Adhopia. Please include a Cover Letter, CV and examples of your work (2 video stories, 2 audio stories, 2 text stories and 2 examples of live coverage.)
We are also available to chat if you have any questions.
Here’s more details:
