(1) Senior Producer, Your World Tonight (Weekend)
Your World Tonight is looking for a Senior Producer to lead a critical CBC News program on the weekends. We know the news agenda doesn’t take weekends off, and we’re looking for a leader who thrives on domestic and international news and enjoys working with a small but dedicated team.
This five-month backfill position in Toronto is to cover a departmental staff move. The work week is compressed, with the Thursday and Friday shifts preparing the weekend broadcast, followed by shifts on Saturday and Sunday taking YWT to air.

Your World Tonight, heard seven days a week, is our evening radio news program and a top podcast that is committed to delivering the best of the CBC's journalism and audio storytelling from Canada and around the world - covering news as it happens and giving Canadians the context they need to understand it. Rooted in the day's news, YWT cuts through the noise, giving Canadians a better understanding of how their country and their world is changing.
About the Role
The position requires demonstrated experience leading a news program, which includes the shaping (planning and coordinating content) and production (vetting content, overseeing the sound and tone of the show) of a broadcast program, as well as ensuring YWT meets CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
The Senior Producer is responsible for a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to:
The production of Your World Tonight on Saturdays and Sundays, including oversight of producers, associate producers and other members of the production team
Develops strong and collaborative relationships with assignment teams, local CBC newsrooms and teams across other platforms
Ensures YWT is always up to date by executing a breaking news strategy around coverage and chase in collaboration with other CBC platforms
Works closely with the program host providing editorial support in a live broadcast environment
Works closely with reporters from across the news service to shape, develop and vet multiple stories
Provides clear direction, feedback and mentorship to journalists and production teams with various levels of experience
About You
You have a deep interest and understanding in the big stories of our day, from Canadian politics, U.S.-Canada relations to what’s going on in the Middle East and around the world
You have experience leading a program: planning daily broadcasts, working with assignment teams, assigning show staff, vetting items for broadcast and overseeing a show as it goes to air and uploaded online.
You enjoy leading a team in a collaborative manner that fosters an open environment that encourages input from all team members
You are engaged, interested and immersed in the diversity of experiences that make up contemporary Canada. You will encourage members of the team to bring their life experiences, perspectives and expertise to the program, with the goal of enriching the team and the content of YWT
You are a critical thinker and can sift through complex layers of a story and the spin surrounding it
You have experience in working with audio, including mixing and putting together compelling audio – including an interest in what makes an effective news podcast

(2) Web Writer with CBC Arts
CBC Arts is looking for a writer and storyteller with great interview skills and a deep interest in popular culture, performing arts and contemporary art.
You are someone who is up-to-date on the latest in Canadian TV and film, performing arts, and contemporary art, and are always looking for who and what is new and next.
You are a writer first, but are able to think about how stories might work across other mediums, and have a keen understanding of how to incorporate visual elements into your stories and package them to make them appealing to an online audience.
You’re also a strong editor, able to take on edits when required.
You have a knack for finding interesting creatives across disciplines from across the country, and getting them to talk about their work in an easy-to-read and accessible way.
You’re able to see and contextualize trends in arts and culture.
You are a self-starter who always has multiple ideas on the go, but can also work as part of a team to create larger editorial packages and take assignments as needed.
Your reporting must comply with CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
The team is based in Toronto, but we are open to remote candidates.
This is a 24-week backfill position.
Key Tasks:
Writes, edits, packages, and publishes digital content in a clear and concise manner.
Ensures the website and stories adhere to the priorities of the day.
Gathers and reports information from various sources.
Re-writes material as necessary to make it more relevant to the platform.
Selects photos, and video/audio clips to accompany online stories.
Contributes and pitches ideas
Publishes CBC material on social media and other platforms.
Coordinates the creation of interactive content.

(3) Iqaluit Reporter/Editor
CBC North Iqaluit is seeking casual staff to fill backfill requirements. The positions can be filled remotely.
CBC North Iqaluit has a need for two backfill reporters to work between immediately, with hours available throughout the rest of the fall and possibly into the winter to cover for staff on leave. Reporter/Editors will file content for both TV and Radio. Both positions can work remotely. Looking for candidates with experience covering remote and isolated communities. Knowledge of Nunavut and Inuit culture is a definite asset.

(4) Video Journalist Whitehorse
Video journalist with experience required immediately for about 2 months with possible extension. Airfare to get to Whitehorse will be paid.

(5) Reporter/Editor - Whitehorse
There is an ongoing need for a reporter/editor backfill for 4-8 weeks duration starting immediately. There is a possibility of extension as the need arises. Airfare to get to Whitehorse will be paid. There is also an option to do this work remotely if you have experience and familiarity working in the North.

Temps are called in to work to replace permanent employees when they take a break for holidays or special projects etc.
While Temps are employed at the CBC all year round, there are three main periods for Temp hiring:
Summer (early May-mid September)
Year end holiday break (early December-mid January)
Leading up to fiscal year end (early February-end of March)
