FOR ALL 7th graders: Tradition of Excellence Book 1 (red)- Please make sure your student has their own copy for the specific instrument they will play. It should be Red and have a picture of the instrument they are playing on the front cover. https://kjos.com/band/methods-by-series/tradition-of-excellence/book-1.html

Valve oil- only needed for students who play trumpet, trombone, baritone/euphonium or tuba (valve oil is same as slide oil). This is used every few days and is crucial for the instrument to work correctly. Please make sure your child has a bottle- it will last years! Al Cass valve oil is recommended. https://www.musicarts.com/valve-oils
Cork/Slide Grease (same product) looks like chapstick- but it's not!- Saxophone/Clarinet on the large corks where instruments are assembled. Trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba- used on the 3 small slides/ top small slide on trombone. Any brand is fine. https://www.musicarts.com/search?q=cork%20grease
Reeds- Only used for clarinet and saxophone. This is required as the instrument will not play without a reed. Be sure the reed box says the correct instrument. 7th graders need a box of strength 2, box of 10 to begin and this should last until December with proper care. After December, most will be ready for size 2.5. 8th graders need a box of reeds, size 2.5 or 3.

Percussion students must purchase their own drum sticks and mallets, and a mallet bag for storage. It is standard practice to be proficient on both snare and mallets, so a snare drum and/or practice pad and bell kit would be a good investment for at home practice but is not required. Please feel free to check around (Amazon, Music and Arts, etc.), but I will include links to help guide you.
Mallet/Stick Bag- this will hold the sticks and provide an easy way to transport materials. mallet bag examples
Snare drum sticks (Vic Firth SD 1 is recommended). sticks
Medium Hard rubber mallets or Light plastic rubber mallets
Metronome (check your phone’s app store- many are free)
