(in case you can't make it)
The first day your child comes to school, they will have band for about 45 minutes. We will go over class safety expectations, procedures, learn how to get to our band google classroom, get to know each other, and go over band instruments and what instrument they are planning to play.
Instruments will NOT need to come to school until the second week of school as we will use the second class meeting to go over a review of how to read music and terms/symbols.
Your child will need an instrument to play by the 2nd week of school and accessories including the supplies listed above and on the supply page from this website. If you cannot afford an instrument, the school has a very limited number that can be loaned out and will include a form (to be signed by parent, student, and Mrs. Webb) and one time payment that covers yearly maintenance and repairs (around $40).
There are no after school events planned, except for the one winter band concert and one spring band concert.
Once we start instruments, 7th graders will begin learning how to assemble instruments, make a sound on the mouthpieces, and then start learning lots of notes and rhythms. Practice at home is very important, so encourage your child to practice 15-30 minutes daily.
8th graders will begin by reviewing skills that were learned last year and will be playing lots of good music. I can't wait! I am so excited for year 2 with you.
