*DISTRICT LEADERS lead this session to onboard Campus Literacy Teams*
Develop a clear understanding of the district’s vision for structured literacy implementation across all K-3 classrooms. (District Leadership leads this activity for their Campus Literacy Teams)
Clarity, communication and staying disciplined to a clearly defined structured literacy approach is critical for improving reading proficiency. A detailed and deliberate approach for everyone to follow often yields the best results.
Step 1: Introduce the K-3 Literacy Block Approach to ensure campus leaders are clear about the district's vision for structured literacy.
Explain the schedule of minutes for each instructional elementary and the HQIM that is expected to be used with fidelity during each instructional element.
Discuss the importance of "tight" adherence to this vision and a structured literacy approach, and the district's rationale for ensuring consistency across all K-3 classrooms.
Step 2: Seek Campus Leader Feedback
"What needs to be clarified in order for you to lead implementation of the K-3 Literacy block approach with fidelity on your campus?"
