Introduction to the RBL SMART Goal Reflection Cycle
To measure the impact of RBL pilots, districts set one, 3-year goal for each goal type:
Proficiency: Documented evidence that a student has met the required level of skill and knowledge set by benchmarks.
Growth: Academic progress made over a period of time, as measured from the beginning to the end of the defined period.
Student Voice: Student perceptions about school improvement initiatives.
RBL SMART goals represent targets that, if achieved, indicate traction toward solving the district-identified problem.
What impacts do we hope to see at the end of 3 years as a result of this work?
What types of impacts in (proficiency, growth, and student voice) make this work worth doing?
These 3 types of goals together will provide reliable snapshots about progress toward improving academic outcomes and understanding student perceptions about the changes they are experiencing in blended classrooms.
In the RBL SMART Goal process we focus on identifying and refining a few HIGH PRIORITY SMART Goals as the focus for monitoring and reflection on your progress.

RBL SMART Goal Template - District Example
Review the pre-populated SET tab so that everyone can align around a starting point for discussion.
Teams begin working on SMART Goal templates and get as far as they can on the SET tab with a focus on selecting the assessment tools and metrics they will use to set goals and track progress.
It is the reflection activities that will help each district mark progress toward 3-year SMART goals and make adjustments to increase the likelihood of realizing them.
The RBL PM and Senior Leader will facilitate reflection meetings with the RBL Leadership Team (including Campus Leaders) at MOY and EOY to reflect on results from progress tracking assessments. The team will determine "next steps" course corrections to increase the likelihood of realizing their 3-year SMART goals.
At MOY and EOY, the RBL PM and Senior Leader will submit and certify that all data and analysis reported in District and Campus-specific RBL SMART Goal Trackers are complete and accurate. In addition, the PM and Senior Leader with input from campus leaders will prepare a written summary of lessons learned and key decisions emanating from the leadership team reflection meeting. The summary should specify "next step" actions and provide a rationale for how these moves are expected to positively impact progress toward SMART goal attainment.
To inform perspective as you periodically reflect on progress:
Identify Campus Status: In order to contextualize SMART Goal progress during the reflection cycle, be sure to identify and consider where each pilot campus is in the 3 year implementation cycle.
Results Fluctuate: Results from pilot classrooms may fluctuate depending on where campuses and classrooms are in the 3 year implementation cycle and other factors, including the pace of campus and district scale, and the level of campus and district support for BL practitioners (e.g., school leader involvement, time for teachers to shift classroom practices, instructional coaching capacity).
The reflection cycle is your opportunity to formally review your data and contextualize your learnings.
