Events
Planning/ Presenting on Campus
Casper College hosts many conferences and guest speakers. Those who plan these events have a lot to prepare for including services offered by the Digital Learning A/V Department (DLC A/V).
DLC A/V has provided some questions that will need to be answered in order for DLC A/V to provide you with the best service and allow your event to run smoothly.
Question #1
Will there be a presentation (PowerPoint, video) that will be projected?
NOTE: A/V does not provide computers! If the room that the event is being held in does not have a computer, then you will need to check one out from Information Technology Department. A personal laptop may also be used.
Question #2
What connection options does the computer have for displaying?
If a laptop is used, DLC A/V will need to know what kind of connection it has. Most are either VGA, HDMI, or DisplayPort. A MAC may need a dongle, which DLC A/V DOES NOT provide.
(Please see "Cable Recognition' for pictures of the different cables.)
***USB is NOT a display port and will not pass video.***
Question #3
Will the presentation have sound?
Some rooms will need speakers brought in or an audio connection if there is sound within the presentation.
Question #4
Will microphones (mics) be needed?
If mics are required, DLC A/V will need to know how many and what kind. There are podium mics, lav mics (body mics), and stick mics.
**Not all rooms are equipped with or need voice amplification.**
Answering these questions will help DLC A/V prepare properly for your event. Keep in mind that requests to DLC A/V usually need a 24 hr period, (or one weeks notice is best) and may not be fulfilled without proper notice. This is due to equipment availability.
Projector
Finding a Source
Projector
Not Projecting?
This handy little A/V trick could be your new best friend. If you are finding that your computer is not displaying through the projector, try holding the "Windows" key and the "P" button on your keyboard ("Command" "F1" for Mac users to mirror image). This will bring up your display options.
"Duplicate" will copy the image on your computer screen to the projector display.
Tinted Screen Projection
Having a multi-color screen show up when you are projecting? Even if you are partial to greens, purples, and/or pinks it is probably not ideal for your instructing needs. Check your VGA (the cord connecting your computer to the equipment pictured below). If this connection is loose, it will cause the different colors. It may also be the pins in the cord. If they are even slightly damaged they can cause the coloration. A new VGA cord may be your fix.
