Cost Behavior

Learning Objective. Students will develop scatter plots and use regression analysis to choose the best of two cost drivers for predicting a company's operating costs. Students will also compare and contrast cost equations, graphs, and cost predictions to those found using the high-low method.

These are the directions to the project that should be given to students. The last page contains a suggested grading rubric for the project that students can tear off and hand in when they submit the project for grading.

This is the Excel starting file that students need to upload. The file contains historical data on volume and operating costs. On one worksheet, volume is measured in terms of number of trips taken. On the other worksheet, volume is measured as miles driven. Students complete this Excel workbook according to the directions and submit it for grading.
