About Me

Hello everyone! My name is Melissa Saveikis and I am a Library Media Specialist here at Dunbar Township Elementary School. I am so grateful to have, what I believe as, the best job in the world. I currently work with all age levels and I love coming to work each day. I started my career teaching at the middle school teaching computer applications. After spending three years there, I moved to elementary school where I began as the library media specialist and computer teacher. With the merger of schools last year, I currently only teach library classes. This is my second year in this role and I hope to remain in for the rest of my career! I consider myself to be a Future Ready Teacher Librarian and an Ed Tech Leader.

I was honored to have been chosen from my district to attend the annual PETE&C (PA Educational Technology Expo and Conference) conference this school year. I was a wonderful four days of learning different tech skills to implement into the classroom. Last year I was chosen out of thousands of applicants to attend Picadamy in Ann Arbor, Michigan where I had to opportunity to learn how to use and incorporate Raspberry Pi into the curriculum. After receiving a grant last school year that was weather based, chosen 5th grade students, with my help, programmed a Raspberry Pi weather station which reads real time weather from our location!

I am also a certified Project Lead the Way Lead Launch teacher. After attending a four day training last summer, I was able to incorporate PLTW modules into STEM based learning this school year.

I look forward to preparing our students each day to become future ready students by creating a culture of creativity, collaboration and innovation!
