Internal grants are funded by the University's annual budget and internal resources. UTAS- Suhar is a research-based educational institution in Oman that encourages researchers and academics within the college to get involved in the process of research. The College offers every year research grants to participants who wish to examine and investigate different research areas, to express their findings in sophisticated writing, and to share their findings at conferences or publish them in academic. Furthermore, the results may also provide the basis for future research studies that can be supported by other funding sources.
Research Project Summaries for Internal Funded Projects
Mrs. Shadia Al-Mughaizwi, Assistant lecturer in GRD, is conducting a research about the effect of Corona pandemic on teaching and learning process. The research aims to indicate the challenges encountered by students and instructors and to find solutions for these challenges to create better guidelines for better online teaching mode. Ms. Ibtisam Ali Hassan Al Badi, Ms. Asiya Abdullah Hamed Al Saidi, Ms. Huda Salim Al Rehali, Assistant Lecturers in English Department, are conducting a research entitled “UTAS-Sohar Students’ Perceptions towards Integrating Game-Based Assessment Tools in English Classrooms: Kahoot Case-study”. This study aims at investigating the perceptions of students from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Sohar (UTAS-Sohar) towards integrating Kahoot, a game-based assessment tool, into their English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes. It also aims at measuring their acceptance level and identifying the factors affecting their acceptance level by adopting the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) developed by Davis (1986). The results of the study will enrich the Omani context theoretically and pedagogically. Please contact me if you would like more information
Dr Govinda Rajan Assistant Professor in Engineering Department, is conducting a research about design of carbon capture system, kinetic study of carbon sequestration , Accreditation and Design of Engineering Program. Please contact me if you would like more information
Dr. Mohamed Mihoub, Assistant Professor in Eng. Department is conducting research about high altitude wind energy systems. The high altitude wind energy systems are an alternative to the classical wind turbine systems. These systems are still at a relatively early stage of development. They are designed to generate energy by means of tethered flying devices, such as kites, wings or aerostats. The rigid tower supporting the blades is replaced by the kite lines. Longer length of these lines allows access to better winds at low expenses. The research project of Dr. Mihoub includes the design and the control of a power kite wind energy system. Dr Parmal Singh Solanki , Assistant Professor in Engineering Department, is conducting a research about analyzing the quality of the electrical power used by various appliance at UTAS Campus. Based on the analysis recommendations will be made to enhance the power quality. Please contact me if you would like more information
Dr. Piyush Dua, Assistant Professor in Engineering Department, is conducting a computational research to explore the properties of emergent nano materials such as Nanowires and Nanotubes to be used for spintronics and memristive applications. Please contact me if you would like more information
Dr Prince Williams , Assistant Professor in Information Technology Department, is conducting a research about predicting the expected software development cost with respect to desired level of software reliability by using various Cost models developed in the literature for the past four decades. This is quite interesting because, as of present, no researchers have tried to analyze different software cost models with respect to S-shaped Software Reliability Growth Model.
