We ran a total of 130 miles this week. Cameron was a great little town and it was such a great opportunity to learn more about the Navajo people. We were excited to see more of the Navajo Nation Native American reservation. It is the home to the largest indigenous (the original people in a place) tribe covering 17,544,500 acres with a population of 173, 667. We headed towards Monument Valley which is made up of sandstone buttes. Buttes are large hills with steep sides and a flat and narrow top. A lot of movies have been filmed in Monument Valley. We could see the buttes of Monument Valley for miles before we reached them. The Navajo people take care of it and oversee (manage) the park. We took a few days off there so we could go for a trail run and also go horseback riding. It was amazing! We camped at the base of the buttes that are called the Mittens. They are called this because they look like mittens with a section sticking up like a thumb. It was the most incredible sunset I have ever seen.
