We had a terrific week during our 4th week of running with a grand total of 158 miles. It's so hard to believe that our journey has already been a month! While we were excited to reach Nevada last week we made a group decision to head south and cross back into California so that we could explore Death Valley National Park. We were so glad that we did! It is truly an amazing place. If you are interested in geology (the study of the physical features and the history of the earth) then this is the place for you. Death Valley was so interesting and large that we decided to take a zero day ( AKA: rest day) and charter a bus so we wouldn't miss anything. The visitor guide states that "Death Valley National Park is the hottest place on Earth, with a recorded temperature of 134 °F (57°C) on July 10, 1913. It is also the driest U.S. national park, and Badwater Basin (-282 feet) features the lowest elevation in North America! Check out the video below to see some of our favorite sights at the park.
After we left Death Valley National Park we continued on until we reached Shoshone, California. It has a population of around 13 people and has a history of being a railroad town and for mining. Everyone was really excited to stay at the Shoshone Inn which had an awesome pool. It was in the 70s during the day and the pool felt refreshing.
