2023 marks the third year of the Year 7/8 Narrative Writing Competition. This year's competition called for entries from students in Year 7/8 on the theme of 'Courage'. The judges were Katie Pigeon and Liz van Geffen for the Year 8 competition, and Katie Pidgeon and Katy Body for the Year 7 competition.

Judging took into account the following criteria:

• Originality

• An ability to engage the reader

• An effective setting (time and place are apparent)

• Well-developed central character

• Use of descriptive and figurative language

• Thoughtful development of the theme

First prize winners were awarded a $100 voucher from Whitcoulls, while other place-getters received a $30 voucher.
