During the fall, the captains run informal, zero-commitment practices for those interested in preparing for the winter. These include running in the Arb, hill bounding, and rollerskiing on various routes through and beyond campus. A typical week of fall Nordic includes one easy run or rollerski, one hill bounding workout, and one team lift. The Nordic team has access to Carleton's varsity gym, and we lift every week, all year long!
During the winter, practices are held 5 times per week in the Arb, typically at 4:00 pm. Two of these practices are led by Carleton Nordic alum Phil Bowen! These coached practices typically consist of interval workouts and technique drills. The remaining practices are free skiing through the arb, except for Fun Fridays! We love to celebrate the end of the week with a game of capture the flag, a relay race, and maybe even some glitter.
When snow is lacking on campus, the team occassionaly travels to Hyland Lake Park Reserve, located in Bloomington, MN.
As in every season, the team lifts weekly in Carleton's varsity gym!
You can earn PE credit by attending an average of 2 practices per week. Carleton requires 4 PE credits to graduate, so Nordic alone fulfills this requirement!
In the spring, captains hold very informal practices once or twice a week. These often include runs through the Arb, rollerskis around town, and lots of slacklining, cartwheels, and trips to The Blast, Northfield's local ice cream shop. Our weekly lifts also continue throughout the spring.
