Browse below to find answers to the most common questions about the ballroom dance team or social dance club. If you have any other questions, please email any member of leadership and we’ll be happy to assist you.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to email us at ballroom-leadership@carleton.edu
Absolutely not! Many members of our team started dancing in college with no prior experience (including all of leadership!). Only Advanced Practice (Saturday 4:00-5:30pm) requires experience. All other practices are open to anyone!
Please fill out this form (required by PEAR) to officially register for the team. Members are expected to pay $65 in dues each term they are an active member (the team's treasurer will reach out to members when dues are being collected). Make sure to sign up for our mailing list as well!
Please fill out the club sports registration form linked HERE. Don't worry, this doesn't mean you're making a commitment to joining the team! It's just a liability waiver.
Absolutely not! Please feel free to come as much or as little as you'd like. You're still welcome to be a member of the ballroom team or social dance club whether you come to one event a week or all of them! There are some ballroom events that require higher attendance, such as our annual Spring demo, but that's a completely optional event and not required for you to be a member of the team.
Shoes:
Nope! If you'd eventually like to buy some, please talk to any member of leadership and we would love to help you find the right pair for you. Otherwise all you need is a pair of socks.
(If you end up coming to any competitions, apart from Ballroom Blast, you will need to acquire some shoes)
Clothing:
We recommend that you wear something that is comfortable to be active in. For some people, that means active wear, for others it means whatever they wore to class that day.
Some dancers elect to also purchase dance practice wear. If you are interested in learning more about this, reach out the leadership or take a look at this document.
In winter term, if you come to 16 open practices (usually occurring Tuesdays & Thursdays 7-9pm), and you register for the "class", you may receive PE credit.
Anyone who is an active member of the team, attends practices regularly, has paid dues, and has paid their competition registration fee, are welcome to participate in competitions with us! We do not hold tryouts to attend competitions.
If you are a newcomer, we invite you to join us at Ballroom Blast in the Fall and DanceFest in the Winter.
For returning dancers, the Badger Ballroom DanceSport Classic is also available, and every two years USA Dance Nationals is, too.
