Case Study 1
- RE (Hinduism) -
Overview of Case Study:
The children were hooked into the question through a dance workshop, followed by the opportunity to explore the story of Diwali. To do this, they listened to the story and recreated it using props and costumes through helicopter stories. We then linked this to feelings and emotions so that we understood how people were feeling throughout the story and could link these to ourselves. After we knew the story really well, we sequenced this and wrote our own captions to re-tell this.
The Learning Targets for this Case Study were:
Describe some of the teachings of a religion.
Describe some of the main festivals or celebrations of a religion.
Identify the things that are important in their own lives and compare these to religious beliefs.
Identify how they have to make their own choices in life.
Explain how actions affect others.
Show an understanding of the term ‘morals’.
Week 1: We spent week 1 exploring Hindu items and what Hindus believe in. We were really interested in the temples and the gods and goddesses.
We explored Hindu places of worship.
We learnt that these were called temples and, when we looked closely, we could see that some of the temples were made up of statues of people, like the statues we made in our last expedition!
We tried meditating.
We found this really relaxing and we loved making the 'ohm' noise!
Week 2: This week we have been exploring the celebration of Diwali an exciting Dance session with our Kixx Coach, Shelley! We really enjoyed learning the different moves, listening to the Indian music and loved striking a pose!
Crew One
Crew Two
Captioning the story of Rama and Sita.
We read the story of Rama and Sita and organised the sequence of events from what we could remember. We then worked in small groups to write captions for each of the images, working hard to use finger spaces and punctuation to make our work look beautiful.
Mind Mapping Diwali
As a Crew we watched a video of a Diwali celebration and wrote about what we could see.
We really enjoyed 'popcorning' our observations from the video and sharing our ideas with the Crew.
We collaborated really well and helped each other with our spellings using Fred Fingers.
