ヒトと動物の集団の成り立ち：社会内分泌学の創生

Forming Functional Groups of Humans and Animals: Social Neuroendocrinology

動物はそれぞれの種特有のルールをもって「社会」をつくっています。一方、ヒトとイヌ、ヒトとネコは、異種にもかかわらず、お互いの「社会」が緊密につながり、混ざり合っています。

そこで、集団としてのヒトと動物の共生を可能にしている要因を見出すために、イヌやネコのそれぞれの同種の集団の成り立ちや文化進化を調べ、そのうえで、動物とヒトがどのように関わっているかについて明らかにします。

Animals form a "society" based on unique social orders within their species. On the other hand, Humans-Dogs and Humans-Cats form an intimate "society" with each other even though they are different species. Our research is based on how and why humans are able to live with other species by being a one whole functional group. Our future goal is to reveal how humans and animals interact with one another by understanding how dogs and cats form a functional group within their species and cultural evolution.

2）ヒト動物の認知的インタラクション

Human-animal Cognitive Interaction

ヒトはイヌやネコ、ウマに対して、言葉は通じませんが、互いに理解しあえているような感覚を持つことができます。ヒトはなぜそのように感じることができるのでしょうか。動物たちは実際に、どのくらい私たちヒトを理解しているのでしょうか。このテーマでは、ヒトと動物たちがどのようなシグナルを使ってコミュニケーションを成り立たせているのかを明らかにすることを目指しています。

We humans feel as though we understand what dogs, cats, horses, etc. are thinking and feeling although we do not speak the same language. Why can humans feel that way? How much do the animals actually understand us? This theme aims to reveal what kind of signals humans and animals use to communicate with each other.

３）ヒトと動物の共生による効果

Reciprocal Co-Habituation between Human and Animals

ヒトでは、友だちや家族などの親しいもの同士は行動や感情が同調し、調和しあうことがわかっています。そこで、ヒトとイヌやネコが生活をともにすることが、お互いの行動や生活パターン、心身の健康にどのような影響をもたらすかについて、長期的に調べています。また、ネコとヒトの間に、ヒトの親子間に形成されるような愛着が、どのようにして形成されるのか、その愛着の形成が両者にどのように影響するのかも調査しています。

Humans are known to synchronize and build a rapport with close people such as friends and family members. We are doing a long term research on how living with dogs and cats can affect each other's behaviors, everyday life patterns, and mental/physical health. We are also researching how attachments are formed between cats and humans, similar to those between human parents and children, and how the formation of such attachments affects both.
