ヒトに飼われているネコは、野生の猫と比べて、鼻の長さが短く、目の角度が低いことがわかり、これらの形態変化は「可愛らしさ」の評価に影響することを明らかにしました。ヒトと暮らし、ヒトとの相互作用によって飼い猫の顔形態は変化してきたと考えられます。京都大学・上智大学との共同研究です。

ヒトが犬と触れ合っている様子をプロジェクターで映し出し、被験イヌに呈示したところ、ヒトが犬と触れ合っていない映像を注視した条件と比較して、心拍変動(R-R間隔の標準偏差)が低くなりました。このことから、イヌはビデオで再生される二次元の社会刺激に対しても情動反応を示すことが明らかとなり、また、飼い主への愛着が強いイヌほど、自己(被験イヌ)の映像刺激と他の犬の映像刺激の違いに対する情動反応が明瞭であることも明らかにしました。大学プレスリリースはこちら

マウスはメスと出会うと超音波領域で音声を出します(ultrasonic vocalizations, USVs)。これはオス特異的と考えられていますが、それがなぜ性差を生むのか不明です。今回、メスにテストステロンを処置することで、USVや性行動がどのように獲得されるのか、またオスでテストステロンが産生できないマウスではUSV発声がどのようになるのか、を調べました。メスに周産期や発達期にテストステロンを処置することでUSVが見られましたが、成長後ではテストステロンの処理ではUSVの発現が認められないものの、性行動は発現しました。オスで胎生期のライディッヒ細胞を欠損したオスマウスでは、成長後のUSVも性行動も消失しました。一方、胎生期ライディッヒ細胞の部分欠損マウスでは、周産期のテストステロンは分泌されませんでしたが、成長後のテストステロンが分泌され、USVも性行動も発現が確認されました。オスマウスとメスマウスで多少の違いがありましたが、周産期のテストステロンがUSVの発声にかかわる神経回路を形成し(組織化作用)、成長後のテストステロンはさほど必要不可欠ではないことがわかりました。これらのことは、性の発達とゆらぎを調べる上で、重要な知見といえます。

雌マウスは自分と異なる系統のオスの歌う超音波音声に嗜好性を示します。今回、C57/B6JとBALB/cAのマウスを用いて、音声の周波数はシラブルのどれが嗜好性に関わるかを調べました。C57Bl6では周波数を中心に、BALB/CAではシラブルと周波数の両方が関わることが明らかになりました。この成果はExperimental Animalsに掲載されました。

本学 菊水 健史 教授と奈良先端科学技術大学院大学・熊本大学大学院・名古屋大学大学院の研究チームは、ヒトとイヌの情動の変化を、心拍変動解析を用いて計測し、飼い主とイヌとの間で、同調した心拍変動が認められることを確認しました。飼育期間が長くなることで、この同調率が上昇し、またメスのほうがオスよりも同調しました。これらの結果により、情動の伝染の進化要因として、遺伝的なものよりも生活空間の共有が重要であるという理論に一致した結果が得られました。
今回、ヒトとイヌという異種間(遺伝的には関係のない個体間)において、飼育期間が長いことつまり生活環境の共有が長いことによって情動伝染が起こりやすいことが示され、進化理論に合致した結果となりました。ヒトとイヌの共生の歴史において、情動伝染の存在は、相互理解や協力関係の構築において重要であると思われます。今回の結果から、ヒトとイヌの長くそして深い関係性の一端が明らかになりました。
この成果は2019年7月19日(中央ヨーロッパ標準時)に[Frontiers in Psychology]に掲載されました。
