Supporting Pets and Their People
More Than a Shelter. A Resource for the Whole Community.
Our mission doesn't end at the shelter gate. CAPS is committed to keeping animals and families together — and that means showing up for our community in ways that go far beyond adoption.
SNAP - Spay/Neuter Assistance Program
The most powerful thing we can do to reduce the homeless animal population isn't rescue — it's prevention.
Launching in 2005 SNAPS provides low-cost spay and neuter surgeries to income-qualifying Churchill County residents. Our goal is to make sure unplanned litters never enter a shelter.
To qualify, applicants must provide a current photo ID with a Churchill County address, plus one of the following: Medicaid card, QUEST (food stamp) card, or documentation of a child enrolled in a qualifying assistance program.
Contact us for more information about eligibility and scheduling.
Sometimes people surrender animals not because they want to, but because they can't afford to feed them. We'd rather help a family through a hard month than separate a beloved pet from their home.
Our pet food pantry provides free food to Churchill County residents facing financial hardship. In 2021 alone, we gave away more than 2,000 pounds of food to 23 local families.
Eligibility Requirements:
✔ A valid photo ID
✔ Proof of residency in Churchill County, NV:
A valid Nevada state ID or driver’s license,
AND
A utility bill dated within the last 60 days showing your Churchill County address
In addition to our regular Pet Pantry, we proudly support local families and individuals through monthly outreach efforts.
We attend Fallon Daily Bread once per month, where we distribute both canned and bagged dog and cat food to community members in need.
We also partner with Out of Egypt by providing smaller, gallon-sized bags of dog and cat food, along with canned food, for individuals who may not be able to transport or store full-sized bags — including members of our unhoused community.
Our goal is simple: to help ensure pets stay fed and families stay together, regardless of their circumstances.

Community Education
We believe a well-informed community is a more humane community. CAPS offers resources, guidance, and support to help Churchill County residents become the most informed, responsible pet owners they can be.
Topics include the benefits of spay and neuter, responsible adoption, recognizing signs of illness, and alternatives to surrender when times get tough.

CAPS Day Adventure Program
The CAPS Day Adventure Program is a short-term fostering initiative that allows individuals and families—including local residents, tourists, and military personnel—to take one of our adoptable dogs on a daytime outing. Whether it's a leisurely stroll, a scenic hike, a trip to a pet-friendly café, or just some time relaxing at home, this one-day experience benefits both the dog and the participant.
