Ways to Promote Academic Success
The transition from elementary to middle school can be a very difficult one to navigate. For a child to be successful in school, expectations and accountability at school and home should be alike. Below are some ways for you to support your child in his or her academic success while at NHMS:
Check your child’s Reminder Binder every night along with his/her homework
Your should be using his/her reminder binder every day, writing down the homework for each class
Monitor your child while they complete homework and have a designated spot for homework completion
This could be the kitchen table while you are prepping for dinner.
Use Paper Tutoring
Free 24/7 tutoring is available to your child through their Clever account.
Help your child clean out his/her backpack on a weekly basis
Papers from the previous quarter should be cleared out and only current assignments should be in your student’s binders
Check Canvas on a weekly basis
You can sign up as an observer to view your child’s canvas account.
If you need help with that, please contact the Guidance Techs.
Help your child reach out to their teachers or school counselor about missing assignments
This could be through email, asking to be stamped or scheduling a meeting with the counselor during Shark Time
Make sure your child arrives on time with their materials needed to be successful in class and ready to learn
Attendance is extremely important for the success of your child.
If your child is going to be absent, make sure that teachers are contacted so your child has the work that he/she is going to miss
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's school counselor.
