NURSES DAY
Friday, May, 10, 2024
Thank you, Ms. Julia for your care, patience and attention to the health and well-being of all of the scholars who see you every day. We appreciate you so much!
You are our HERO!
Principal for a Day, Avery, gave Nurse Julia a little poem:
NURSE JULIA
Putting on band aides.
Stopping a bloody nose.
Holding on to ice packs.
Giving out change of clothes.
Tirelessly healing all day long.
Just to make sure that nothing goes wrong.
Our children are safer because of you.
Thank you, Nurse Julia, for all you do!

END-OF-THE-YEAR DISTRICT AND STATE ASSESSMENTS
Dear Bergeson Families,
This May, our students will be taking end-of-the-year District and State assessments. The charts below indicate which grade levels will take which tests during the month of May. The iReady Reading and iReady Math assessments are diagnostic in nature and will provide teachers with valuable data pertaining to student achievement in these areas. The DIBELS assessment is also diagnostic in nature and assesses a variety of English language skills (i.e. phonics, fluency, comprehension). Teachers will use this data to assess student growth this school year as well as share this information with next year’s teacher for instructional purposes.
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is the State’s academic testing program and includes the computer-adaptive Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) and the California Science Test (CAST). Students in grades 3 – 5 will take the SBA test. Only 5th grade students take the CAST.
Students in the Mandarin Immersion Program grades 2 – 5 will take the STAMP test to assess their growth in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Mandarin.
Please ensure your child attend school during our testing period. Please schedule doctor appointments outside of our testing window. Although we have make-up days, testing during scheduled days gives students the optimum opportunity to do their best on their end-of-the-year assessments.
As always, thank you for your continued support!
Principal Murphine

A FEW IMPORTANT REMINDERS
INDEPENDENT STUDY CONTRACTS
Some families make plans to leave on vacation during the month of May. Please be advised that Independent Study Contracts are NOT approved the last month of school. Please speak with your child's teacher regarding missed class work and end of the trimester grades.
DELIVERIES TO STUDENTS DURING SCHOOL
In order to maintain our students’ focus on learning, deliveries to the classroom are not permitted. All items
to be delivered to students (instruments, lunches, homework, etc.) must be left in the school office.
Deliveries of packages, flowers, balloons, special lunches, cards, etc. are not allowed during school hours.
Birthday celebrations: In accordance with the CUSD Board Policy, providing food (birthday cake, cookies,
fast food, pizza, etc.) for the class or groups of students is not allowed for birthdays, even during lunch.
ALL VISITORS ARE EXPECTED TO CHECK-IN AT THE FRONT OFFICE
In order to maintain the safety of our students and staff, all parents/guardians and visitors are expected to sign-in at the front office, before visiting classrooms.
All visitors must wear a badge while on campus.
Pre-school parents must wear their assigned badges when dropping-off and picking-up their children.
Parents are expected to wait for their children at the front of school; not at the lunch tables or outside of classrooms. Please be mindful of our teachers’ time. Please avoid conversations with teachers before school starts as it takes time away from their preparation to start the day with your children. Email your child’s teacher to schedule a time to meet. Instructional time is sacred time!
Parent Parking Lot:
A reminder to our neighbors who park in the Parent Parking Lot. Pursuant CVC 21113(A) cars may not park overnight in our parking lot. Notes have been left in cars informing them that starting Monday, October 2nd cars that are parked in the Parent Parking Lot over night will be subject to being towed.
Please help us spread the word in the community.
We are seeing cars parked overnight again. Help spread the word in the neighborhood that overnight parking is prohibited in the Parent Parking Lot.
PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND DRIVE SAFELY!
Please ensure you follow all traffic laws when dropping and picking up your child. Unfortunately, we have had some close calls in both parking lots with parents driving too fast or not following traffic laws and almost hitting staff or students. PLEASE STOP/SLOW DOWN AT THE CROSSWALK TO ENSURE NO PEDESTRIANS ARE WALKING BEFORE YOU DRIVE THROUGH.
THANK YOU!
