Outdoor education aims to build life skills. Challenges are encountered and the group need to explore solutions, be innovative, learn from each attempt, and have the resilience to keep going. Through this collaborative interaction they develop thinking and communication skills, learn to trust and support others, and are often surprised with their outcomes having being confronted by a seemingly insurmountable obstacle. All these skills are required to conquer the challenges and succeed in life ahead. Feelings of empowerment and sense of achievement inspire confidence for future adventures.

Our school has been bringing an entire high school grade to Canyons for over five years, and we have never left disappointed. We do a 'start of the year' adventure trip (August/September) and it always sets the tone for a wonderful year ahead. There is no better place to be in Japan at that time of year! From canyoning to hiking, and rafting to biking, Canyons offers a very unique experience to our students. Many of them arrive with next to no experience in these activities (and even less confidence), but by the end of the trip they are begging to stay another day or two. The Canyons staff is extremely professional, kind, and always entertaining. The food is FANTASTIC and plentiful, and everyone sleeps well in the cozy lodging. We are excited to go yet again at the start of next school year and enjoy another few days of beautiful greenery, cool water, and fresh air!
