Welcome to Mrs. Urmson's fourth grade web site!

  Fourth Grade is a great year! I hope we can make it the best one yet!

    I teach language arts, science, and social studies to my homeroom. I also teach social studies and science to Mrs. Ziegler's students.

    In Language Arts this year, the students will be learning with a new reading program called Wonders. Students will read a variety of fiction and nonfiction in class. Some stories will be read to them while they will read on their own at their own level as well. Essential reading skills will be focused on continually. We will also constantly work on improving writing skills. The students will be given writing prompts to work on in class and at home.

     In social studies, the focus is Ohio's history and how Ohio is connected to the United States and the world.  We read the chapters in our book together and discuss the material. Graded papers and tests are given in class.  The students will keep an organized folder with notes and handouts provided to them in class. They will have review sheets to complete to help them study for the test.

    In science, the students will focus on the scientific method, animal and plant adaptations, and changes in the Earth over time. The students will keep an organized folder with notes and handouts provided to them in class just like they will in social studies class.

Students are allowed to use their books, notes, and other resources for all class work.  They are not allowed to use those materials for tests except for reading story tests.

In the spring, the students will take state assessments in reading and math.
