1. Silent Reading Routine: Our routine is to ...

• walk in to class quietly and choose a reading website or a book, and read quietly while the teachers do attendance. 

2. Epic Reading and Newsela: Matua Jon will lead you through the process for joining our class for Epic reading and Newsela. You can choose to read off these sites during our silent reading time in future lessons. 

3. Kiwi Kids News: You will be given homework booklets and instructions for Kiwi Kids News. We will have a practice using these booklets in class. 

THURSDAY'S ACTIVITIES

Activity One: Silent Reading

Activity Two: Autobiographical Writing and SEXY paragraphs

• Class discussion: 

  • • What is an autobiography? What are the key features? 

    • What is a SEXY paragraph? (Year 8s - think back to last year!)

• Title: Using a clear double page in your book - give your autobiography a title. Make it big and attractive. 

• Paragraph One: Write a SEXY paragraph about a person who has been important in your life so far. Use the example SEXY paragraph to help you set it out. 

• Paragraph Two: Write a SEXY paragraph about something you are passionate about. Use the example SEXY paragraph to help you set it out.
