Our vision is to grow learners for life who strive for excellence.
Our Values
The Campbells Bay Values were created in collaboration with the students and staff of Campbells Bay School, the Board of Trustees and the community. They align with what our stakeholders deem to be most important for teaching and learning to be built upon.
These values are explicitly taught in our classrooms and across the school. They are part of the language of Campbells Bay School and underpin everything we do. They ground us all in what is important to us and also what is expected of us.
We strongly believe that kind, resilient and respectful students are better prepared for their learning journey both here at Campbells Bay and as they move beyond.
Respect is a way of treating or thinking about something or someone and to act in a way which shows that you are aware of someone's rights, wishes or differences.
Resilience is the ability to do your best, even with challenges in your way or when things go wrong.
Kindness is the way you care about the well being of yourself and others.
Through the teaching of these three core values students are given the opportunity to express their own values, and how they align. They are given opportunities to acknowledge, with empathy, other peoples values and learn from each other through shared learning experiences. We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning School. PB4L is the foundation of our curriculum. We prioritise the behaviours that enhance learning for our students.
These three core values align closely with the values outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum.
Excellence. High expectations are clear through our school vision and our values. Our students are encouraged to 'Strive for Excellence' in all they do. We talk about this as a form of respect for self and shows resilience by persevering in the face of difficulty.
Innovation, inquiry and curiosity. Encouraged through our rich learning experiences and the opportunities offered to students at Campbells Bay School. Our students and our teachers are 'Learners for Life'.
Diversity. Celebrating and understanding difference shows kindness towards others. Working together to create a shared culture that is inclusive and values each person for who they are and what they bring to our school community.
Equity. Ensuring each student has what they need to be successful learners is an important role our staff undertake. Monitoring, checking in and ensuring students have all the resources and support they need to be successful is part of daily life at Campbells Bay School.
Community and Participation. We find that good home-school links are vital to ensure students are successful at school. Aligning our school values with those of our community was, and continues to be, an important part of Campbells Bay School.
Ecological sustainability. Caring for our community is one way we can show 'Not Self but Service'. Our students are taught that they play a significant role in looking after not only our school, but the community in which we live.
Integrity. Being honest, responsible and acting ethically is an important part of learning the values of kindness and respect. These are core elements that come into the teaching of these values for our students. Treat others the way you want to be treated and doing the right thing even when no-one is looking are key teaching concepts we value at Campbells Bay School.
Below are some of the resources developed by our PB4L leaders through their work with our teaching teams. These resources help us to promote our school values and keep them at the forefront of our learning journeys.
