In special education, we think about "transition" in terms of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act requirements and focus on the skills that a student will need to have a full and productive life after they leave high school. We officially begin providing transition services at age 14 and/or grade 8 (whichever comes first) and continue providing transition-specific services up to age 21 or graduation from high school.
