I worked as a scientist, earning my PhD in Plant Molecular Biology from Stanford where I studied corn genetics. My research project explored the Bronze2 gene in the anthocyanin pathway.
In the garden
After graduate school I supported the Human Genome Project in computer software and hardware marketing roles. I got to travel around the world meeting scientists and helping them use computers to test their genetics data.
Science teacher
While working as the garden parent at my daughter's school, I learned how much I love teaching children! I then got my teaching credential at San Jose State University (SJSU) and became a science teacher.
Family
Daughter Annie
My daughter and I like to do outdoor things together like hiking, sea kayaking, and taking care of animals.
Wildlife Rescue
Here is our Racing Pigeon we rescued this summer. We wanted to keep him but had to find him a new home. He was a very sweet friend!
Animal Lover
We love animals and have a special favorite, our cat Aiko. I need to find a good picture of him for this panel.
Out and About
Aikido
I am both a student and an instructor of Aikido. I have been training for many years, and it is a very important practice for me.
Cooking
I had a great time cooking with Annie and her boyfriend this past summer! We tried lots of new things together.
Onions
Magic happens to onions when they are gently cooked... so yum!
