My name is Angela Kochiyama and I love teaching at Price each and every day! This is my 13th year at Price and my 21st year in the profession. The first 8 years of my career were spent teaching at Campbell Middle School, where I have taught every grade level of math (5th- 8th), along with 5th & 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies. Since at Price, I have taught 6th grade math, 7th grade math, 8th grade math, 8th grade ASD, and 8th grade study strategies. I love working at Price and I look forward to another awesome year!
I earned my masters degree in middle school education with emphasis in 6 – 8 mathematics. I graduated from Humboldt State University with a degree in Elementary Education with minors in Child Development, Business, and Leadership. HSU is also where I earned my first credential in teaching (multiple subjects). I earned my second credential after my master’s degree, which is a single subject mathematics credential.
There are so many things I love about teaching! I would say the biggest thing I love about teaching are the relationships that I get to build with my students inside and outside of school. I love getting to know my students on a social level. What is happening in their lives, what are they passionate about, and seeing them around town (most likely at the baseball field, soccer field, or Target). I am also one of those people who really love math, a math nerd to the core. I do my very best to get the students to understand that anyone can learn and do math. What has been scary or confusing for so many of then for such a long time, can actually be fun and exciting! My goal for every student that leaves my class is that they might not remember everything I taught them, but they will remember how much fun they had learning.
On a personal note, we didn't do much over this past summer, but managed to still have a great summer. My husband and I just celebrated our 22nd year wedding anniversary! We have 2 children. My oldest son, Mason, is a 11th grader at Branham and my youngest son, Austin, is a 8th grader at Price. Normally, you can also see them around Price. This summer we got a new addition to the family! Meet Waffles! She is 3 months old and joins her big sister Biscuit.
